Volunteer Job Description

PARA - ATHLETE REPRESENTATIVE

Your role is as a spokesperson for high performance level Canadian para-archers (athletes with a disability – AWAD), ensuring those views, comments and opinions reach the High Performance Committee (HPC) and Archery Canada (AC) management. Within the High Performance program, direct responsibility for the planning and evaluation of activities related to performance level athlete performance at the international level. 

Leadership

- Attend Archery Canada High Performance Committee meetings (generally one face-to-face meeting per year – November/December), including HPC teleconference meetings (2-4 per year).

- Communicate regularly with the Para-Archery Coordinator (volunteer position) and Canada’s high performance level para-archers.

- Liaise with the HPC members, AC Board of Directors, AC Executive Director, PSO's & staff, coaches and AC's membership in general, as required.

- Recruit & communicate with PSO para-athlete representatives.

- Represent para-archery and AC interests at meetings & events as required.

Planning

- Contribute to the development and revisions to the High Performance plan.

Development Projects

- Contribute to revisions and updating of AC plans, as required.

Implementation

- Participate as a member of the High Performance Committee.

- Liaise with all interested para-archers and coaches.

- Address issues within the High Performance program.

- Promote the LTAD model and its benefits to Canadian para-archery and archery development in general.

- Survey the opinions and concerns of provincial athlete representatives.

- Communicate regularly with AC ‘Able-bodied’ Archery Athlete Representative.

- Encourage the election of provincial para-athlete representatives.

- Oversee the AC Para-Athlete Representative election process with staff.

- Work with Webmaster to ensure website information for portfolio is correct.

- Contribute as necessary to AC's official electronic newsletter.

- Vote on all Board/Executive/Committee issues as required.

- Represent AC and its para-archers at AthletesCAN meetings.

- Represent AC at Canadian Paralympic Committee (CPC) meetings, as required.

- Assist with development and refinement of selection criteria for Para National Teams; carding criteria; and selection criteria for national team support staff.

- Survey provincial para-athlete reps regarding nominees for AC annual awards.

Evaluation

- Evaluate Para National Team reports from international events, participation and feedback; and submit recommendations to the Para-Archery Coordinator and the HP Vice-President.

Reporting

-  To the HPC, 1x per year (written).

-  To Board, 1x per year (written).

-  To Membership at AGM (written) for the AC Annual Report
